Find care
How can you check the person giving care?
Begin by asking for the full name and type of licence of the person giving care. A licence is the board’s permission to practise within a defined role.
MD and DO doctors
For MD doctors, Arizona’s Medical Board provides Doctor Search. It shows licence details and public decisions, such as a penalty or limits on the doctor’s work.
For DO doctors, the Arizona Osteopathic Board offers its separate Find your DO search. That board handles doctors with the DO qualification.
These licence searches were checked on October 3, 2026. The MD search cannot replace the DO search.
Nurse practitioners and physician assistants
A nurse with an advanced care role is called a nurse practitioner. Arizona’s Nursing Board links to Nursys, a nursing-record search, for licences and advanced-practice certificates.
A physician assistant, often called a PA, has a separate Arizona board with PA Search and licence verification.
Both licence-search websites were checked on October 3, 2026.
An advanced-practice certificate is the board record for that extra care role. For a nurse practitioner, ask about both the nursing licence and the relevant certificate.
Read the scope as well as the record
Scope means the work a licence permits. A nurse practitioner’s prescribing requires permission from Arizona’s Nursing Board under the rules checked on October 3, 2026. The prescribing must fit the person’s training.
A licence record alone does not show that the person may prescribe every medicine made to order.

Arizona: nurse-practitioner scopeA blank history is not the whole answer
Arizona’s rules checked on October 6, 2026 restrict the board records shown online; additional public records are available by request.
A board record may list past decisions, such as discipline or restrictions on practice. A blank list does not prove there were no earlier complaints or board decisions.
